Cruxy O’Connor and the Central Park Ambush And finally they come to this elderly black man who's been sitting there quietly the entire time. What we have already achieved gives us hope.
And I think they recognized a part of themselves in me too. And that it's not enough to just believe this - we have to do our part to make it a reality. What we have already achieved gives us hope - the audacity to hope - for what we can and must achieve tomorrow. Well it's time for them to own their failure.
In this election, we offer that choice. John Kerry believes in America. Did I ever hear him make remarks that could be considered controversial while I sat in church? Yes. That's why I stand here tonight. And Democrats, we must also admit that fulfilling America's promise will require more than just money.
But we cannot walk away this time. For we have a choice in this country. Perhaps somebody told her along the way that the source of her mother's problems were blacks who were on welfare and too lazy to work, or Hispanics who were coming into the country illegally. This too is part of America's promise - the promise of a democracy where we can find the strength and grace to bridge divides and unite in common effort. This country of ours has more wealth than any nation, but that's not what makes us rich.
That we can participate in the political process without fear of retribution, and that our votes will be counted at least, most of the time. It's the wisdom Moses imparted to those who would succeed him. These are not whiners.
This country of ours has more wealth than any nation, but that's not what makes us rich.
Because in an economy like this, the last thing we should do is raise taxes on the middle-class. We will, however, relentlessly confront violent extremists who pose a grave threat to our security. Around the world, we can turn dialogue into Interfaith service, so bridges between peoples lead to action - whether it is combating malaria in Africa, or providing relief after a natural disaster.
Thank you, God Bless you, and God Bless the United States of America.
